Frequently asked questions

What Purrse does, how the plans are calculated, and what happens to your data.

What is Purrse?

Purrse is a personal budgeting app built around paychecks instead of calendar months. You plan each pay period on its own, track what is due before the next one, and see exactly what is left. Debt payoff and savings goals are planned the same way, one check at a time.

How is paycheck budgeting different from a monthly budget?

A monthly budget averages your money into thirty days that may not match when it actually arrives. Purrse works period by period: the income for that check, the bills due before the next check, and the real ending balance you recorded. That ending balance becomes the opening rollover for the next period, so the plan always starts from actual cash.

Does Purrse give financial advice?

No. Purrse shows the arithmetic behind your plan: payoff dates, interest cost, shortfalls, and the effect of moving an allocation. Purrfessor explains the trade-offs and can propose edits, but nothing is applied until you confirm it, and it never suggests cutting below a required minimum.

Can Purrfessor change my budget on its own?

Not silently. Every proposed change is prepared as a review card with before and after values and a plain-language summary. You apply it, adjust it, or discard it, and applied changes can be undone from the coaching history.

How does debt payoff planning work?

You record each balance, its APR, its minimum payment, and its due date. Purrse assigns the planned payment to pay periods, projects a payoff date from those payments, and warns you when a promotional rate is about to end. You can concentrate extra money on one debt or spread it, and the projection updates.

Is my financial data private?

Yes. Every record type is scoped to the account that created it, enforced on the server rather than just hidden in the interface. Data is not sold or shared with advertisers, and the community feed only ever shows anonymous, server-written wins with no names or amounts.

Can I connect my bank account?

Bank connection is optional and off until you enable it. When connected, balances are read through Plaid so your accounts stay in sync, and the bank access token is stored server-side only, never readable by a browser session.

Can I import a spreadsheet or a document?

Yes. You can upload a workbook or a bill document and Purrse will read it, map it to your budget structure, and show a preview before anything is saved. Uploaded files are stored privately.

What does Purrse cost?

The budgeting core is free to use. Optional support toward running costs exists for people who want it, and it is voluntary.

How do I delete my data or close my account?

Settings includes data controls to export your records and to delete your budgeting data. To remove the account itself, send a request through the feedback page and it will be handled.
